Dry mouth, or xerostomia, is another factor that can lead to bad breath. Saliva plays a crucial role in washing away bacteria and food particles in the mouth. When there is a decrease in saliva production, such as during sleep or due to certain medications, bad breath can occur.
If a person experiences severe symptoms like ear pain, redness in tonsils, or swelling, it is recommended to see a doctor. These can be the sign of tonsillitis or any other serious issue. Also, if tonsil stones are very large, it needs immediate medical attention. Besides, if tonsil stones are recurrent, then also one must see a doctor.
Most causes of bad breath are due to inadequate oral hygiene and are rarely life-threatening. If good oral hygiene practices do not eliminate bad breath, see a dental professional. In most cases, a dentist can treat the cause of bad breath. persistent dry mouth, sores in the mouth, pain with chewing or swallowing, white spots on the tonsils, fever, any other symptoms of concern.
You can tell you have tonsil stones if you can see the white deposits trapped in the crevices of your tonsils. Other times, you might notice them when they come out, “appearing” suddenly in your throat or mouth. They are usually white and can be soft and/or gritty.
Large cavities and progressive gum disease both provide perfect hiding spots for large collections of bacteria. As cavities worsen, bacteria accumulate in actual holes in the teeth. When gum disease progresses, deep pockets develop between the tooth’s roots and the surrounding gum and jawbone. The deep pockets are breeding grounds for bacteria that become more dangerous as the pocket deepens.
