If your dentist determines that your mouth is healthy and that the odor is not oral in nature, you may be referred to your family physician or to a specialist to determine the cause of the odor and possible treatment. If the odor is due to gum disease, your dentist can either treat the disease or refer you to a periodontist, a specialist in treating gum tissues. Gum disease can cause gum tissues to pull away from the teeth and form pockets. Sometimes bad breath could be temporarily a problem also. When you drink or eat foods that contain garlic, onion or alcohol, you are more likely to have bad breath. Smoking is another way that can make the mouth dry leading to bad breath.
4. Refer You to Your Medical Doctor – When all oral causes of bad breath have been ruled out or repaired, we will work with your medical doctor to help you solve persistent bad breath. Some patients will need to see an ear, nose and throat specialist (ENT) to address chronic sinus or throat infections. Others need help from a gastroenterologist (GI specialist) for issues in the stomach and/or esophagus.
When bacteria and food particles aren’t properly removed from the surface of the teeth, cavities can begin to form, eating away at the enamel of our teeth. If cavities aren’t properly dealt with, they can cause further decay and infection which may lead to abscesses and broken teeth.

I have all always received excellent dental care at Premier Family Dental starting with the wonderful front staff to... Char who does such a thorough job of examining and cleaning my teeth and gently waking me up. My provider is Dr Spring. He is a top notch provider in the field. I have extensive dental work performed by Dr Spring and never had one problem with his dental work. I appreciate Dr Spring as a provider but what I really appreciate is the fact after he gives his examination Dr sits and talks and jokes with me. I know providers of all specialities are busy but for the providers that take a few more minutes with me............ that puts the special touch to my visit feeling welcomed. Thank you and see you in 6 monthsread more

Dr. Birch and his team were great! I had a really good overall experience at Premier Family Dental Care. They were... courteous, caring, and thorough. Chloe and Mackenzie do a wonderful job at the front desk, Christian was patient and made me feel comfortable with the x-ray process, and Stacey is an excellent dental hygienist. From the time I called to make an initial appointment for check-up/x-rays to the second appointment for cleaning, they were all top-notch. I would highly recommend Dr. Birch for those considering a dentist in the East Valley. He is knowledgeable, professional and listens to you!read more
